Human Settlements' Portfolio Committee visits Parow Housing office

The City’s Human Settlements Portfolio Committee conducted
an oversight visit to the Parow Housing Office. The
office is located inside of the Parow Centre and housing officials assist
residents with a variety of housing related matters, including Housing Needs
Register enquiries, queries on title deeds and delayed transfer units, among
others.
Today, 22 July 2022, Councillor Anda Ntsodo and the Human Settlements Portfolio Committee members visited the office to take a closer look at the assistance available to residents.
'We are pleased to see so many residents being assisted by the competent and well trained staff at this housing office. This particular office, which is situated in the Parow Centre, brings important housing related services to residents of the immediate and surrounding areas. This office is not only conveniently situated inside of a shopping centre, it is also close to public transport which makes it accessible for all.
'The City's Housing Needs Register plays a crucial role in providing housing opportunities to residents, so we are encouraged to see so many residents at the office to follow up on queries and to update their personal and contact details. The City has a number of housing projects under way across the metro and we urge residents who are waiting for their opportunity to please ensure that their contact details are updated should the City need to make contact regarding their application. The City has also made great strides with its title deed handover programme over recent months, which shows the City's commitment to providing residents with formal ownership and unlocking economic opportunities for their families. As an oversight body, we continue to hold the City to account to ensure services are delivered.
'Residents are encouraged to approach City offices should they have queries or if they seek guidance on their housing related matters,' said Councillor Ntsodo.
Housing Needs Register
Beneficiaries of City housing projects will be selected in accordance with the City's Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Needs Register to ensure housing opportunities are made available in a fair and transparent manner that prevents queue jumping and to those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation. The City's political office bearers do not have access to or influence over the Register and its qualifying beneficiaries.
